GitHub for homework submissions
My GitHub was an empty and lonely place until yesterday when I found a use for it: submitting homeworks for classes I’m taking. Such things have been done before, but still I would like to take a moment to encourage students and educators to take up this practice:
Exhibiting your work motivates you to do the work well. When I know that my work will (half-)read by a single person only, I will for sure do a sloppy job. When it’s up there for the world to see, you tend to put a bit more work in it.
People may propose corrections or improvements on your work. As a result, you end up learning more.
Especially in graduate-level courses, it’s often difficult to find good sources of know-how. Putting up your work online will quite possibly end up saving a lot of time for others in the future.
Follow the link to my first submission to find out about the picture above.
